Forest Chaput de Saintonge

Choosing a Telescope (and Other Equipment) for Deep Sky Astrophotography

A Talk by Forest Chaput de Saintonge (School Director, Rocky Mountain School of Photography)

About this Talk

Are you looking to take close-up images of the moon, eclipses, galaxies or nebulae? Maybe you’ve already started and aren’t getting as many successful images as you had hoped for?

In this presentation, Forest Chaput de Saintonge will walk through the basic equipment needed to capture telephoto (aka “long-lens”) images of the objects in the night sky.

He will discuss the best telescopes and lenses to use, what gear you need to capture round stars, tools for getting the perfect focus and other pieces of gear to help you get started with astrophotography. There will also be brief discussions on the best settings to capture quality images of small objects in the night sky. This talk will get you started capturing the celestial images you’ve always wanted.

Note: This is not a camera basics class. While it focuses on equipment, an understanding of exposure (ISO, shutter speed, aperture) and previous night photography experience is highly recommended.
